Cloverfield
John, Lucy and I saw Cloverfield last night with high expectations. Not least Lucy and I due to our recent love and completion of Lost season 3, we hoped JJ Abrams was going to do us proud with the production of Cloverfield. Admittedly it was a slick film, although one that left you feeling nausea after 10 mins of enduring the hand-held filming style. The plot begins to unfold quickly and within the first 30mins it is quite obvious what it is attacking New York. However, the lame plot really does not develop further on either the part of the humans nor the beast. Intrigue into any of the characters is kept superficial while the adventure across town is simply ludicrous, failing to be enthralling or exciting. Comedy is left down to the plump and shy jock behind the camera.Inevitably, as with Lost’s practice, no definitive answers were offered, but at least the main couple enjoyed their day!Leave this film well alone, for an atmospheric, CGI heavy New York film I would highly recommend I am Legend, Smith is fantastic as usual, the plot offers intelligence and the action and suspense.
